Cannons get all-league recognition

The Charles Town Cannons of the Valley Baseball League had outfielder Waldyvan Estrada and designated hitter/catcher Matt Durst selected to the 16-player, all-league first team.

The league’s Most Valuable Player was Jordan Tarsovich of Strasburg. The Pitcher of the Year was Justin Camp of Harrisonburg and the Manager of the Year was Phil Betterly of Woodstock.

Charles Town outfielder Tyler Hibbert was paced on the 16-player, all-league second team.

None of the Cannons pitchers were selected to either the first- or second-team.

In the league playoffs, the quarterfinal round saw Waynesboro eliminate Harrisonburg (the team with the best regular season record), Aldie oust Woodstock, New Market move past Staunton and Strasburg take a 2-0 series win over Charles Town.

In the semifinals, Strasburg won the first two games and the short series against Aldie and Waynesboro eliminated New Market by winning the first two games against the Rebels.

In the best three-of-five series in the league finals, Strasburg won the opening game on Sunday against Waynesboro’s Generals.
