WVU’s Murray asked to leave

West Virginia University basketball player Aaric Murray has been dismissed from the team. Murray came to West Virginia from LaSalle in Philadelphia and sat out one season as a transfer. During that year, he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Since he graduated in the spring, Murray could actually be eligible to play in the 2013-14 season if another school takes him.




Swim/Run Biathlon

The 6th annual Heart of Potomac Valley Swim/Run Biathlon will take place in Brunswick, Md. on Saturday, Aug. 10. Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Brunswick City Pool and the event begins at 9 a.m. Area youth, teens and adults are welcome. It will take place on a marked cross country course and in the city pool. Costs vary from $8 to $15. Go to or call director Lee Zumbach at 301-834-8045. It is a rain or shine event.




Charles Town/Ranson Seniors get critical win

Two of the three teams entered in the Little League District 6 Sr. League tourney reached this week’s state tournament in Princeton.

South Berkeley defeated Hedgesville and Charles Town-Ranson to represent the District 6 winner’s bracket.

Charles Town/Ranson lost its first game, went into the loser’s bracket and once there defeated Hedgesville, 4-3, to finish 1-1 in the event and qualify for the state tournament.

Hedgesville became the only team in the District 6 event not to qualify for the state tournament.

Dylan Impellizzeri, William Viands, Paul Bowlin and R.J. Wilson scored the runs for Charles Town/Ranson in the win over Hedgesville.
