The five-person Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame committee has named a 2013 class of four athletes to be inducted in ceremonies held the weekend of Oct. 18-19.
Named by the committee were football standouts Rob Bradford and Joel Gordon, former men’s soccer coach Mike Doran and women’s basketball record-setter Cassie Murray.
Bradford played in years 1983-86 and was on NAIA playoff teams in both 1983 and 1986. As a senior he had 51 pass receptions for nine touchdowns and 1,121 yards.
His receiving yardage that season is still a Shepherd record. Bradord’s nine receiving TDs in a season is another Shepherd record.
Gordon was a four-year starter at quarterback in the years 1999-2002. He holds the school’s career records in passing yards, completions, pass attempts, TD passes, total offense and TDs responsible for.
Shepherd won the WVIAC title in 1999 under Gordon’s direction. Now an assistant coach at Shepherd, the Rams have won four WVIAC titles and been to the NCAA Division II playoffs four times while he has been a member of head coach Monte Cater’s staff.
Doran was the men’s soccer coach from 1989-97 and received WVIAC Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and 1996. His 50 career wins rank second in
Murray was a four-year starter and a four-year All-WVIAC first-team performer. She played from 1999-2004. After her four years with the Lady Rams, Murray was the school’s all-time career leader in most three-point goals made, most three-point attempts and most steals.
Murray’s 1,494 career points place her second on the all-time list and she is sixth on the career list of rebounds (768) in her four seasons.
The foursome brings the number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 133 athletes and coaches.
