The Ranson Civic Center was jumping June 23 with music, joy and laughter as family and friends helped George Melvin Wilt celebrate his 90th birthday.
He is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County.
He served in World War II in the Asian Theater. Back home, he returned to his job at Whitmore Lumber Co. until he retired in June of 1985.
Among the family members joining in the celebration: Wilt’s wife Reba Wilt and their two children, Nelson Wilt and Helen Hamill; their children’s spouses, Paula Wilt and Dave Hamill; their six grandchildren and their 12 great-grandchildren.
Tyler Wilt, one of the great-grandchildren, was celebrating his 18th birthday. A cancer survivor who fought the disease for most of 2012, he is the son of Troy and Tracie Wilt and is headed to Shepherd University this fall.
Asher Rudolph, a great-great-grandchild of George Wilt, marked his ninth birthday as part of the celebration. He is the son of the Revs. John and Melissa Rudolph.
