CHARLES TOWN – A recount held late Monday night confirmed and certified the victory of political newcomer Jonathan Wertman in the race for the Ward 3 council seat, narrowly unseating two-term incumbent Donald Clendening.
[cleeng_content id="948371516" description="Read it now!" price="0.15" t="article"]“I’m thankful for the opportunity the voters of Charles Town have afforded me,” Wertman said. “I am excited to serve the city and I look forward to getting up to speed on where we’re at and where to go from there.”
The recount matched precisely the initial count of 197-195 in favor of Wertman – after the inclusion of provisional ballots.
The reelection of incumbent Rich Bringewatt to the Ward 4 seat was confirmed last week, after his opponent Geary Johns declined to seek a recount.
Several other seats, including that of Mayor Peggy Smith, were up for reelection this year but were uncontested during the election.[/cleeng_content]
