CLARKSBURG — Jefferson High senior Alexandra Witt was named to the Class AAA, 18-player, first-team All-State softball squad as selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Witt, who won two Sectional games, defeated Musselman and Buckhannon in Regional tests and got the pitching win over Ripley in the Class AAA state tournament, was named as a utility player.
In addition to doing all of Jefferson’s starting pitching in the postseason, Witt batted .447 and clubbed eight home runs this past season.
The Lady Cougars also had Jenna Wilt named to the “special honorable mention” list and Lauren Lewis placed on the “honorable mention” list. Washington’s Amber Curry was also on the “honorable mention” list.
Placed on the first-team were pitchers Chelsey Hager (Ripley), Tara Hanson (Morgantown), Alli Burdette (South Charleston), Ali Haynes (St. Albans) and Amy Rotriga (John Marshall). The infielders tabbed were MacKenzie Milan (Shady Spring), Carly Greer (Wheeling Park), Morgan Kelley (Cabell Midland), Morgan Zerkle (Cabell Midland) and Kylie Howard (John Marshall).
Outfielders selected were Addie Fullen (Hurricane), Morgan Hutchison (Lincoln County) and Alyssa George (John Marshall). Two other utility players were selected and they were Brittany Allison (Parkersburg South) and Courtney Rogers (Hurricane). The two first-team catchers were Mariah Caudill (St. Albans) and Linzie Reynolds (Hurricane).
