VIENNA — On the first day of the WVIAC softball tournament, Shepherd defeated Charleston, 7-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Shannon Lyons. The Lady Rams led, 5-0, after the first inning. Savannah Snyder and Taylor Schaefer both had two-run homers for Shepherd.
Later that day, West Virginia State stopped the Lady Rams, 8-0. Sara Pelegreen’s three-hitter blanked Shepherd. The game was abbreviated to six innings by the eight-run softball mercy rule.
Lyons took the loss for Shepherd.
On the second day, Shepherd was eliminated from the tournament when it fell, 8-2, to Glenville.
Shepherd exited the event with a 1-2 record.
Glenville once held an 8-0 lead in the game. Lyons was the losing pitcher, leaving her with a 12-13 record for the 2013 season and giving the Lady Rams an overall record of 23-28 for the year.
West Virginia State was eventually crowned as the softball tournament champion.
