A three-run deficit didn’t deter Washington on Saturday when the Patriots rallied to score the game’s last four runs in a 5-4 win over Nitro High from Kanawha County.
Nitro had taken a three-run lead in the top of the first. And Washington was busy chasing that lead for much of the sunny afternoon.
The first Washington run crossed when Drew Hetzel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. It was a 4-2 Nitro lead after Dorian Hetzel stroked a long double and was scored by Hunter Weaver’s RBI single. A Nitro error helped the Patriots get within 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, a walk, passed ball, sacrifice bunt and hit batter had two Patriots one base. Zac Burch stole second before Bryan Bayliss looped a single into shallow right to plate both runners and give Washington its one-run win.
Jared Silva was the Patriots’ winning pitcher.
The Patriots moved to 9-12 overall. Nitro was 15-10.
