MARSHALL, Minn. — Shepherd outfielder Ryan Messina has been named to the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II first-team All-America squad.
The junior hit .444. His batting average was the third highest in the country. Messina’s slugging average was .781, also the third-best figure in the nation. His other credentials included 14 home runs, 132 total bases, 55 RBIs, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles and .515 on-base percentage.
Messina was named the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week as well as the D2Baseball News.com National Hitter of the Week in mid-April.
No other players from the WVIAC were named to the first-team. Infielder Nick Sell of Seton Hill was named to the second team.
Shepherd had first baseman Nathan Minnich named to the first-team in both 2011 and 2012.
