RANSON — A 27-year-old Ranson man was charged with felony child abuse Saturday after allegedly strangling his 10-month-old daughter, police say.
Police say John Allen Mitchem, of 108 Valley Drive in Ranson, brought his child to Jefferson Memorial Hospital for treatment for falling off of a bed. The physician on duty called Child Protective Services after noting that the injuries were not consistent with falling from a bed and that the child’s injuries appeared to have occurred prior to that day.
After being interviewed at the hospital by CPS, Mitchem admitted he choked the child because he was frustrated with her, according to police.
Mitchem is currently being held at Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
