Cougars, Patriots split track meet

CHARLES TOWN — In a dual track and field meet between Jefferson and Washington, it was the Cougars winning the boys division, 90.5-51.5, and the Patriots winning the girls division, 76-62.

Martinez Grant (long jump), Rhett Zillinger (3200), Geoffrey Walker (high jump) and Matt Pennock (discus) won one event and the Cougars also posted wins in the 4×200, 4×400 and shuttle hurdles relays.

The 100-meter hurdles race was won by Jefferson’s Jessica Ries. Washington’s girls won the meet.

Derrick Brunson posted a Patriot win in the 200. Adrian Baker won the pole vault when he soared over 12-feet. Ryan Dinant was the winner in the shot put.

The Patriots had wins in both the 4×100 and 4×800 relays.

Washington’s girls received wins from Rhonda Rogombe in both the high jump and the 200. Another multiple-winner for Washington was Devyn Hosby, who outran the fields in the 100 and 400. A third multiple-winner for the Patriots was Destiny Harrison (800 and 1600).

Notching Washington wins were Rachel Krowpman (long jump), Ashley Warner (300 hurdles), Kristin Williams (shot put) and Caysie Irving (pole vault).

Washington won the 4×400 relay.

The Lady Cougars had individual wins from Emma Albright (discus), Pandora Afferman (3200) and Jessica Ries (100 hurdles).
