Top citizen nominations: Who should be honored as 2013’s Jefferson County Citizen of the Year? Officials with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations from the public through June 5. The winner will be announced June 26 at the chamber’s annual awards banquet at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The award committee is looking for someone who has contributed to the Jefferson County community. To nominate someone, write a paragraph explaining why the person is deserving. Include individual accomplishments and community organizations to which the nominee has given effort. Nomination forms are available at the Spirit of Jefferson office and may be returned to the Chamber. For questions call 304-725-2055.

Road closure: Hite Road will remain closed to through traffic until May 29. The road is closed starting at Jefferson Orchard Road for 2,000 feet east as crews continue work to widen the roadway.

Basketball camp: The Washington Patriots’ boys and girls’ basketball skills camp will be held June 17-20 and June 24-27. Cost is $75. For details, call 304-676-1994.

Dance camp: The West Virginia Dance Company will host a show choir camp from June 17 to 21 at Jefferson High. The camp consists of two sessions: one from 9 a.m. to noon and the other from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $100 for one session or $150 for both. Email krwood@access.k12.wv.us for a registration form.

Tennis tournament: The first of five Junior USTA tennis tournaments will be held at Jefferson Memorial Park Saturday through Monday. To join USTA or enter online, go to midatlantic.usta.com. For more information, call 304-725-7929.

GED classes: The Jill S. Weekley Learning Center at James Rumsey Technical Institute offers a variety of free programs to students 16 and older who are out of the public school system. Orientation is from May 31 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Call 304-754-9712 for additional information.

Tennis program: The city of Charles Town will have a summer tennis program for boys and girls ages 3 to 18. Registration fees are $65 for the first child and $35 for each additional child. Registration will be held at the Jefferson Memorial Park tennis pavilion from 4 to 7 p.m. May 31 and June 7 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 and June 8. For more information, call 304-725-7929.

Classmates sought: The Jefferson High School Class of 1993 hosts a 20-year high school reunion July 13 with a family cookout and a dinner. For details, email jhsclass1993@gmail.com.

Bus trip: The Pack Horse Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors a chartered bus trip to Baltimore June 15.
