Top citizen nominations: Who should be honored as 2013’s Jefferson County Citizen of the Year? Officials with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations from the public through June 5. The winner will be announced June 26 at the chamber’s annual awards banquet at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. The award committee is looking for someone who has contributed to the Jefferson County community. To nominate someone, write a paragraph explaining why the person is deserving. Include individual accomplishments and community organizations to which the nominee has given effort. Road closure: Hite Road will remain closed to through traffic until May 29. The road is closed starting at Jefferson Orchard Road for 2,000 feet east as crews continue work to widen the roadway.

Tennis program: The city of Charles Town will have a summer tennis program for boys and girls ages 3 to 18. Registration fees are $65 for the first child and $35 for each additional child.
