W.Va. inmate who crashed coke-loaded plane on lam

MORGANTOWN (AP) — A man who crashed a plane loaded with drugs in Wheeling and then spent four years as a fugitive is on the run again.

The U.S. Marshals Service says it’s looking for 42-year-old Eugene Nicholas Cobbs, who walked away from a federal prison camp in Morgantown on Wednesday.

In 2004, Cobbs wrecked a small plane carrying 520 pounds of cocaine at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. He was on the run until marshals caught him in 2008 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Cobbs received more than 12 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute and for flying without an airman’s certificate.

Authorities say he has used the aliases Eric Wiggins and Marquis Munroe. They urge anyone with tips to call the marshals at 304-623-0486.
