Civil War discussion: The Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 tonight at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. Bob O’Connor will speak about the “Countdown to West Virginia statehood.”

 

Retirees: The Jefferson County chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association meets at noon today at Billie’s restaurant in Ranson.

 

Movie night: Zion Baptist Church in Charles Town will show Tyler Perry’s “Madea Gets a Job” at 6 p.m. Friday. Spaghetti dinner costs $6. For questions, call 304-725-3530.

 

Business leaders: The monthly Eastern Panhandle Business Association meets at noon Friday at Epic Buffet at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

 

Book sale: A gardening/crafts/hobby/DIY book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the South Jefferson Public Library in Summit Point. All proceeds will benefit the library.

 

Brunch and auction: The Eastern Panhandle Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a jazz brunch and silent auction at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg. Brunch fundraiser: New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown will have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast/brunch from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Adults pay $7 and children 3 to 12 pay $4. Carryout will be available.

 

Church conference: A human exploitation and trafficking conference co-sponsored by the Shenandoah Baptist Association and Charles Town Aglow International will be held at the Charles Town Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Admission is a “gently used” purse or handbag for donation.

 

Church fundraiser: A soup, sandwich and bake sale happens at Bolivar United Methodist Church from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

Fundraiser: The Knights of Pythias will sponsor a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the lodge hall, 105 E. Sixth Ave. in Ranson. Adults eat for $8, ages 6 to 12 eat for $4 and ages 5 and under eat for free.

 

Movie night: Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town will host a free potluck dinner and movie night starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. The movie for the evening will be “The Ten Commandments” starring Charlton Heston. Call 304-725-5513 or visit myasburychurch.org for more information.

Public debate: Shepherd University Debate and Competitive Speaking Team will present two debates sponsored by the Jefferson County Organization of Democratic Women at 4 p.m. Sunday. The topics for the debates will be “Keystone Pipe Line” and “Fracking.”

 

Driving class: The Jefferson County Council on Aging will host an AARP Driver Safety Program Class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the Ranson Civic Center. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. To register, call 304-724-7111.
