SU, Fairmont in softball split

FAIRMONT — In a WVIAC softball doubleheader, host Fairmont defeated Shepherd, 5-0, in the opener and the Lady Rams won, 3-2, in nine innings in the second game.
Chelsea Cobb (14-4) authored the Fairmont shutout in the opener with Shannon Lyons (9-8) taking the loss.
Tiffany Biggs was Shepherd’s second game winner, moving her record to 11-10.
Fairmont (15-3) remained in first place in the 14-team league and Shepherd (11-5) remained in fifth place.
On Saturday, Shepherd lost two mercy-rule games to Charleston. The Golden Eagles won the opener, 11-2, and followed that victory with a 9-0 win in the nightcap.
Charleston was 20-17 overall and 11-5 in the WVIAC while Shepherd was 20-22 overall and 11-7 in the league.
Shannon Lyons was the losing pitcher in both games and had a 9-10 record.
