SHEPHERDSTOWN — Shepherd was in seventh place in the WVIAC after it had been swept in a April 10 doubleheader by visiting Glenville. The Lady Pioneers won the opener, 3-1, behind the pitching of Brittany May, who improved to 6-2. Shannon Lyons was the losing pitcher. Shanan Plunkett had two hits for Shepherd.
The Lady Pioneers won the nightcap, 12-9, in eight innings. Lyons relieved Tiffany Biggs and went the last five innings in absorbing her second loss of the afternoon. She allowed eight hits and eight runs.
Sam Weaver improved to 6-1 and Lyons was 7-7 with the loss. Carly Schmidt homered, had three RBIs and two hits for Shepherd. Taylor Bolton and Plunkett each added two hits.
Glenville was 19-7 overall.
Shepherd swept a doubleheader against Concord, winning by scores of 6-5 and 6-4. Later, the Lady Rams won a doubleheader against winless Bluefield. The scores against the Lady Blues were 8-1 and 8-0.
Shepherd was 19-19 overall and in fifth place in the WVIAC with a 10-4 record.
