Jefferson softball stops Patriots

Jefferson defeated visiting Martinsburg, 8-0, in a softball game on April 9 that was abbreviated by the mercy rule.

The Lady Cougars’ Lauren Lewis had a two-run homer in the first inning and Jenna Wilt drilled a solo homer in the same frame. Lewis tripled in a run in the fourth. A triple by Alexandra Wilt in the fifth turned into a Jefferson run when Chelsea Shepherd scored her with an infield hit.

Kaitlyn Boyd’s two-RBI single closed out the scoring and completed the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Jefferson posted a home-field 5-4 win over county rival Washington on Thursday night.

In a Friday evening doubleheader played on the road against Buckhannon, Jefferson split games with the Buccaneers. The Lady Cougars posted an 8-6 win but also lost a 9-3 decision to the home team. Then on Saturday, Jefferson played another twinbill on the road. Morgantown registered an 11-7 win over the Lady Cougars who then fell, 12-7, to Robert C. Byrd.

On Monday, the Lady Cougars tripped Hedgesville, 7-2, to improve their overall record to 14-6.
