WINCHESTER, Va. — Alexandra Witt pitched Jefferson’s Lady Cougars to 13-0 shutout win over host Millbrook in a softball game last Thursday that was abbreviated by the sport’s mercy rule.
The Lady Cougars also went on the road to topple St. James, 15-0, in another game curtailed because of the same mercy rule. The game was played at the little private school in Washington County, Md.
Jenna Witt and Shelby McTighe combined to limit the Lady Saints to just two hits in the three-inning contest. Jefferson’s offense showed Casey Lyons with three hits and Jenna Witt with two hits. Jefferson’s job was made easier by its 10-run first-inning outburst.
In a make-up game played on Saturday, Jefferson defeated Martinsburg, 6-0, at Prather Park. McTighe authored the shutout win. Alexandra Witt had a two-run homer. Brittany Jackson and Jenna Wilt had RBI hits in a three-run sixth inning.
