WHEELING – Former Sheriff Robert “Bobby” Shirley will be sentenced in three weeks, after an order moving up his hearing was filed by a federal judge last week.
Judge John Preston Bailey is expected to sentence Shirley on May 13. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. in Wheeling.
Shirley faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for participating the beating of an arrestee in 2010 after a high-speed chase.
Mark Daniel Haines, the arrestee, has since been convicted of bank robbery. He is expected to testify at Shirley’s sentencing hearing.
