MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Mercersburg Academy defeated Washington, 3-2, in an extra inning softball game played on April 9. The Blue Storm scored the winning run when Chantel Yague reached safely on an error in the eighth and came across on Bridgette Cranston’s RBI double.
Pitcher Sydney Reath fired a one-hitter at the Patriots. Reath had three hits as did Abby Hopple.
Washington had taken a 2-0 lead in the sixth, but the Blue Storm scored twice in the seventh to force extra innings. Mercersburg Academy won despite committing six errors.
The Patriots hosted Wheeling Central Catholic on Saturday for a doubleheader. Washington took both ends of the twinbill, winning 10-0 and 8-5. The victories snapped a two-game losing skid.
Berkeley Springs once trailed the Patriots by six runs but used Washington errors and a few timely hits to score the game’s last eight runs to post an 8-6 win on Monday in Berkeley Springs.
It was a six-run sixth inning fueled by three Patriot errors that brought the Lady Indians all the way back from an early-game six-run deficit.
Washington was 6-8 overall after the loss.
