CHARLESTON — Washington scored eight straight points to overcome Parkersburg South’s three-point lead late in the fourth quarter and went on to a 60-56 win in a quarterfinal round game of the Class AAA West Virginia state basketball tournament.
Trailing, 51-48, with only 3:21 left in the game, the Patriots scored the next eight points as the scoring of Keldon Bell, Dominique Newman, and Maleke Jones pumped new life into the Patriots.
Once in front, Washington never let Parkersburg South any closer than three points.
The win sent Washington to the Class AAA semifinals where it will face Martinsburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Washington improved its overall record to 21-5 while Parkersburg South saw its season end with a 21-5 overall record.
