Splits for Shepherd softball

Rams go 2-2 vs. Bloomsburg, West Chester

SHEPHERDSTOWN — After splitting a Saturday softball doubleheader with Bloomsburg and doing the same on Sunday in a doubleheader against West Chester, Shepherd had a 3-7 overall record.

In Saturday’s bitter cold twinbill, Bloomsburg pitcher Cait Paine had a complete-game five-hitter in the Huskies’ 5-1 win. Tiffany Biggs (1-4) suffered the loss. Shepherd freshman left-hander Shannon Lyons authored a complete-game six-hitter with three strikeouts and only two walks in the nightcap as Shepherd got a 6-3 win. Lyons was 1-1.

Shepherd’s Savannah Snyder and Elisa Orlandi had home runs.

Bloomsburg was 1-1 overall.

On Sunday, West Chester routed Shepherd pitcher Biggs in the first inning of the opener and registered an 11-5 win in the same cold and windy conditions that prevailed the day before. Biggs lasted one-third of an inning and was solved for three hits and three walks before leaving. Savannah Snyder went 3-for-4 for the Lady Rams.

Biggs came back to start the second game and fared much better. She pitched a complete-game four-hitter while fanning four and walking only one as Shepherd got a 5-0 win over the Golden Rams.

Biggs improved her overall record to 2-5 and lowered her ERA to 5.54.

Shanan Plunkett had two hits and two RBIs, Savannah Snyder had two hits and Biana Biondillo also had two hits for Shepherd.
