SHEPHERDSTOWN — The Shepherd softball team was left with a 9-15 overall record after defeating Salem International, 9-1 and 7-3, in a non-conference twinbill and then getting swept by Notre Dame (Ohio) by scores of 7-3 and 11-3 in another non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.
Shepherd pitchers Shannon Lyons and Tiffany Biggs both had a win and a loss in the four games. Former Jefferson High pitcher Katie Mangold was the losing pitcher in the 9-1 game Salem lost. In the doubleheader, Mangold went 3-for-6 at the plate while another Jefferson grad, Haley Nelson, was 0-for-5 for the Tigers.
Shepherd’s Tayler Schaefer and Bianca Biondillo each had three hits in the 7-3 win over Salem.
After being swept by Notre Dame, Shepherd’s Lyons had a 4-4 pitching record and Biggs had a 5-9 record.
