Washington built a seven-run lead in the first three innings of its season opener on Saturday against visiting St. Maria Goretti. When the Patriots scored three more times in the sixth, the 10-run rule was invoked and Washington had a 10-0 win to begin its 2013 baseball season.
Hunter Weaver had two of Washington’s eight hits and drove in three runs. Seth Campbell and Ryan French had RBIs.
Blake Wilt (four innings) and French (who relieved in the fifth) combined for the shutout win over the Gaels (1-2 overall with the loss). The Gaels had four hits off the combined efforts of Wilt and French.
A four-run third inning lifted the Patriots to a large lead.
