Jefferson defeated visiting Hedgesville, 6-1, to get its boys tennis season underway. The Cougars had singles wins from Devin Forman, Isaac Washington, Kaleb Lochner and Christian Shimer. Two of the three doubles matches went to Jefferson with No. 1 Forman/Washington and No. 2 Lochner/Drew Polczynski getting wins over the Eagles.
Hedgesville’s No. 3 doubles team of Wyatt Smith/Garrett O’Connell had the Eagles lone win.
The Cougars lost at No. 1 singles against visiting St. Maria Goretti but had Washington, Lochner, and Shimer win their respective matches en route to a 5-2 Jefferson win over the Gaels.
Goretti’s Aaron Snook defeated Forman, 8-3, at No. 1; Washington beat Bryce Reeder, 8-3, at No. 2; Lochner was an 8-2 winner over Simon Wroblewski at No. 3; and Shimer was an 8-3 winner over Goretti’s Ozair Waseem at No. 4.
The Gaels forfeited one doubles match and Lochner/Drew Polcyznski posted another win at No. 3 doubles, stopping Wroblewski/Waseem, 8-3. Snook/Reader won, 8-2, over Forman/Washington at No. 1 doubles.
The Cougars edged Musselman, 4-3, with Washington and Lochner getting singles wins over the Applemen and Devin Forman/Washington (No. 1) and Lochner/Drew Polczynski (No. 3) getting wins in doubles matches.
Jefferson defeated both Hampshire (7-0) and St. Maria Goretti (4-3) in its own Invitational tournament. Those two wins gave the Cougars the event’s team win.
Aaron Snook was the tournament’s singles champion with wins over Ted Schulz and Jefferson’s Forman. Forman was the runner-up. Snook/Reeder won the doubles title with victories over Schulz/Michael Dietz and Forman/Washington.
