The high school boys and girls regional swim meets will be staged on Saturday, Feb. 9 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Shepherd University Wellness Center.
The Class AAA teams scheduled to appear are Jefferson, Washington, Musselman, Hedgesville, Martinsburg, Preston County, and Hampshire. Competing in the same meets are Class AA schools Fairmont Senior, East Fairmont, and North Marion. The lone Class A school that is in Region II is Doddridge County and if it comes to the meet it will compete alongside the other 10 schools.
Any school that sponsors swimming as a sport, no matter the size of its student body, competes in the one single class that West Virginia provides for the sport.
There are four different regions for swimming.
Any swimmer finishing in the top three in each individual race will automatically qualify for the state swim meet at the WVU natatorium scheduled for Feb. 14-15. The top three relay teams in those events also qualify for the state meet.
Team points are awarded to the first eight finishers in each individual event and each relay. Relay points are double those awarded in individual events.
Fourth-place finishers in each individual and relay event from all four regions will be scrutinized and those with the fastest times will also qualify for the state meet on Feb. 14-15.
The cost for adults is $6 per ticket and the cost for students is $5 per ticket.
