Shots don’t fall, Shepherd does

ELKINS — Davis & Elkins built a 20-point halftime lead and then cruised to a 74-56 win over visiting Shepherd in a WVIAC women’s game.

The Lady Rams, then 9-11 overall and 8-8 in the league, made only 20-of-59 (33.9 percent) of their goal attempts and were staggered by the Senators’ 43-23 halftime lead.

Davis & Elkins had balanced scoring as Page Turner scored 13 points, Alicia Lentz another 12, Maquasia Ferebee still another 12, Jorden Lykes 10 points, Ashley Bowles eight points, and Sharmaine Baker another eight points.

The Senators were 26-for-50 (52 percent) from the field and made 14-of-16 (87.5 percent) free throws.

Shepherd was badly outrebounded, 45-25, as center Gabby Flinchum was in foul trouble and played only 18 minutes.

Davis & Elkins had an 11-9 overall record and moved to 10-6 in the conference standings.
