HEDGESVILLE — Despite Jalen Smith’s five three-point field goals and 19 points, Jefferson was never able to bother homestanding Hedgesville, losing 74-47, in a game that counted in the seeding of the area teams for the upcoming Class AAA Sectional tournament.
The Cougars went to 3-10 overall with the loss.
Hedgesville jumped out to 21-5 lead after just one quarter. The Eagles led, 56-34, after three quarters. And the Eagles outpointed the Cougars, 18-13, in the last stanza.
Michael King added 14 points to Jefferson’s total. He had a pair of three-point field goals.
The Cougars were 8-of-10 from the foul line.
Chris Shields led Hedgesville in scoring with 26 points. Juwan Powell finished with 14 points.
The Eagles were 7-for-13 from the foul line, but didn’t need free throw accuracy in the 27-point win.
