Police are seeking the public's help in identifying this man, who medical examiners have ruled committed suicide yesterday behind the Martinsburg Wal-Mart.

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying this man, who medical examiners have ruled committed suicide yesterday behind the Martinsburg Wal-Mart.

MARTINSBURG – Police are asking the public to help identify a man who investigators have determined committed suicide behind the Martinsburg Wal-Mart.

Officers of the Martinsburg Police Department responded to the store at 800 Foxcroft Ave. at around 9 a.m. yesterday, where they found a man who they describe as an older, balding, white male over 50 years of age with white hair, according to a press release. The man was wearing a red polo shirt, black jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, a fanny pack and black shoes.

Officers discovered that he had died of a single gunshot wound to the side of the head from a Ruger .38 revolver, which was found lying next to him between stacks of recycling materials.

Today medical examiners have ruled that his death was a suicide. They further determined that the suicide occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. that morning.

Police have yet to identify the man, and are seeking the public’s help. Citizens with information about the man’s identity are asked to call the Martinsburg Police Department at 304-264-2100.
