Though she wasn’t due to arrive until Jan. 31, Mariyah Nicole Edwards decided to instead make her debut with fanfare – on the first day of the new year and as Jefferson County’s first baby of 2013. Parents Alisha Mobley and Lamar Edwards welcomed their first child at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Weighing 5 pounds and 6 ounces and measuring 17½ inches long, Mariyah is in perfect health. “My pregnancy was high-risk so seeing her and hearing her cry was such a relief,” said Mobley, who is a resident of Shepherdstown. Registered nurse Megan Nesslerodt, who helped the 19-year-old mom deliver Mariyah, returned on Wednesday to offer a giant gift basket with diapers, wipes, a teddy bear and other goodies. It’s the Ranson hospital’s tradition for the New Year’s baby.
