HEDGESVILLE — A last-minutes scoring flurry moved Hedgesville past Washington, 62-56, in a Sectional girls basketball game played last Thursday. Coach Ben Merica’s Lady Eagles trailed until the final two minutes when they converted a telling number of free throws to win for the ninth time in 16 games.
Washington was losing its third straight game and had an 8-7 overall record.
Hedgesville had a slender, 28-23, lead at the half, but yielded the lead in the fourth quarter.
Morgan Adams had 17 points, Alycia Lambert scored 13 points, and Amber Curry added 12 points for the Patriots. Adams had four three-point field goals and Lambert had three.
Kristen Nunn led Hedgesville with 17 points, Carly Elliott, who fouled out late in the fourth quarter, scored 14 points and Shaw totaled 10 points.
Hedgesville was 8-for-11 from the foul line while the Patriots were 7-for-11.
