SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — On Monday, the Jefferson County school board accepted the resignation of Jefferson High School varsity head football coach Richard Mills.
Mills had earlier tendered his resignation but it only became official with its acceptance at Monday’s Board meeting.
In his nine seasons at Jefferson, Mills had a 28-54 overall record. His 2004 team recorded a 10-0 regular season record. That team reached the WVSSAC playoffs where it won in the opening round and then was beaten in the quarterfinals.
Jefferson’s teams in 2010, 2011, and 2012 all posted records of 1-9.
The 2004 team had Jefferson’s only winning season in Mills’ nine-year tenure.
Mills came to Jefferson after coaching football at Shepherdstown Middle School. He had also coached the football team when that school was Shepherdstown Junior High. Mills had winning seasons at Shepherdstown where the Cardinals had enjoyed some unbeaten success. No successor to Mills was named at Monday’s Board meeting.
