Gaels’ go 3-0, leave Patriots trailing with No. 2 finish

SHEPHERDSTOWN — Washington had a 2-1 girls swimming record in a quad held on Saturday at the Shepherd Wellness Center. The Patriots had wins over Musselman (55-28) and Hampshire (62-31) while falling to St. Maria Goretti (65-28).

The Lady Gaels went 3-0 in their meets, also defeating Musselman (74-20) and Hampshire (76-18).

Washington’s wins in individual races came from Leah Widmeyer (100 butterfly) and Mikaela Payne (500 freestyle).

In the boys division of the quad meet, St. Maria Goretti also posted a 3-0 team record. The Gaels had wins over Washington (58-35), Musselman (57-35), and Hampshire (61-33).

Musselman defeated Washington, 57-35, and Hampshire defeated Washington, 54-39, as the Patriots completed the quad with an 0-3 team record.

Washington’s Shawn Gee recorded a pair of individual victories when he bested the fields in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Washington’s other win in an individual race came from Derek Carson in the 100 breaststroke.
