Exacting turnovers from the beginning of the second quarter until the half ended, made Washington’s quest for a girls basketball win over Jefferson much easier.
The Patriots outscored the troubled Lady Cougars by 12 points in the second quarter alone en route to a comfortable 71-32 victory on Saturday at Washington High.
The win was Washington’s fifth straight and left the Patriots with a 6-4 overall record. Jefferson remained winless and was 0-10.
Washington extended a 10-point lead all the way to 41-19 by halftime. Alycia Lambert and Morgan Adams accounted for 17 first-quarter points and then Kenya Dozier provided 12 points in the second quarter.
Washington had a number of transition baskets attained by its turnover-causing defense.
The Patriots outgunned Jeffertson, 15-2, in an anticlimactic third quarter.
Dozier finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Adams posted another 16 points while Jackie Hess contributed 14 points and Lambert added her 11 points.
Jefferson turnovers had fueled Washington’s scoring from the outset. And the Patriot balance kept the lead going forward toward the final difference of 39 points.
