Thoroughbred tracks work together on race times

Three thoroughbred race tracks — Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, Penn National Race Course, and Sam Houston Race Park in Texas — have announced a plan to coordinate their night-racing post times beginning on Dec. 26.

The tracks will arrange a post-times schedule that eliminates conflicts between their live-racing signals.

The new schedule will allow for as many as 28 races at the three tracks to be run no less than five minutes apart.

Penn National’s Chris McErlean said, “We felt this was a good opportunity to coordinate post times among our nighttime thoroughbred tracks. While it is certainly beneficial to the tracks, it is really being done for the benefit of our on- and off-track fans and customers who shouldn’t be put in the position to choose one track over another when we can take reasonable steps to avoid it.”

Charles Town will conduct its live racing from Tuesday through Saturday until May.
