EPCD meeting: The monthly meeting of the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in the conference room of the USDA Service Center, 151 Aikens Center, Martinsburg.

Fundraiser: Shepherdstown’s War Memorial Building will host a fundraiser event sponsored by the Shepherdstown Public Library and the Jefferson County Development Authority from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight. All proceeds will go toward support of the library.

Dinner fundraiser: The United Methodist Men of Middleway will be sponsoring a roast beef and chicken dinner starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. This is a freewill offering event. Entertainment provided by Homeward Calling. All funds will go toward supporting area families in need this Christmas. Murphy’s Farm hike: The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a hike at Murphy’s Farm in the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. For more information, contact Bob Floren at or 804-398-8052.

Bishop to visit: The Right Rev. “Michie” Klusmeyer, Episcopalian Bishop of West Virginia, will be visiting St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Leetown at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 11 a.m. A luncheon in honor of the Bishop’s visit will follow the service. All are invited to attend.

Blood drives: Three blood drives will be held in Jefferson County. The first will occur at St. James Catholic Church from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday. The second drive will be held at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. Those who donate at Hollywood Casino will receive a $10 food voucher redeemable at Epic Buffet, Skybox Sports Bar or the food court. The third drive will happen at American Public University from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 12. Sign up online at

Civil War discussion: The Harpers Ferry Civil War Roundtable will happen at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. The subject will be “Clara Barton at Antietam and Fredericksburg.” A meal will be served prior to the program. The cost of the meal is $15 per person; the program is free. Book presentation: Researcher and historian Donald E. Watts will discuss his latest book, “Fourth Census of the United States of America, 1820: Occupations and Manufactures in Jefferson County, Virginia,” at the Charles Town Library starting at 7 p.m. Dec. 13. The book will be available for purchase and $5 will be donated to the library for each book sold.

Benefit fundraiser: Friends of Leeds Corbin will host a fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Ranson Civic Center. Admission is $10 per person. All proceeds will go to the Leeds Corbin Benefit Fund. Corbin was injured in an accident and is currently in rehabilitation. Call 304-616-8998 or email for more information.

EPBA luncheon: The Eastern Panhandle Business Association is hosting a luncheon starting at noon Dec. 14 at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races’ Epic Buffet. RSVP by Dec. 12.
