MARTINSBURG — Two late-game layups provided the finishing touches on Washington’s 62-58 win over Stonewall Jackson (Va.) on the second night of the Holiday Tournament held at Martinsburg High.
Balanced scoring allowed the Patriots to improve their record to 5-2, while the Raiders went to 5-4 overall.
Maleke Jones led Washington’s evenly-paced scoring with 14 points with Kendell Smith adding another 13, Dominique Jones finishing with 12 points and Jerome Jones also chipping in his 11 points.
Maleke Jones had a steal and layup that lifted Washington into a 60-58 lead with only 10 seconds to play. Jones sealed the win with another steal and assist pass to Dominique Newman for the final four-point margin.
Washington trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter before its pressure defense brought it back . . . and provided a whirlwind comeback victory.
Smith had 12 rebounds, Maleke Jones counted five steals and Newman another six steals in the successful come from behind win.
