With Tyler Cross, Dylan Ceravalo, and Jarod Jones each winning their particular weight bracket, Washington High opened its 2012-13 wrestling campaign with a third-place team finish in the 12-school Elite Opener tournament.
The Patriots had 341 points to finish behind only team champion Colonial Forge (448) and Robinson (Va.) with 356.
Cross had a 5-0 record at 132 pounds that included three pins. Ceravalo was 4-0 to win the 160-pound weight division. Jones went 5-0 at 138 and had three pins.
Both Tyler Sigler and Ashby Heath reached the finals in their respective weight classes. Sigler was the runner-up at 120 and finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. Heath was also the runner-up in his weight bracket (220 pounds) and had a 4-1 record that included three pins.
Ty Reynolds was fourth at 113 and had a 3-1 overall record. Mark Becraft finished fifth at 145 with his 3-2 record. Also finishing fifth was Zane Bradbury at 170. Bradbury was 3-2 in the tournament.
Winning twice and finishing eighth in their respective weight classes were Tallon Hill (285), R.J. Wilson (182), Josh Blackwell (152), and Quinn Rackley (106).
