Blacksmith fire still under investigation

SHEPHERDSTOWN – A fire at a Shepherdstown blacksmith shop remains under investigation, according to the office of the state fire marshal.

The fire, which started late Friday evening at the Willow Forge blacksmith shop, caused about $10,000 in damage, according to owner and operator Daniel Tokar.

In a Sunday posting on the Willow Forge website, Tokar said he believes the fire was set deliberately.

There were no injuries. Neither of the two cats who live in the shop was harmed, Tokar wrote on the forge’s website.

Shepherdstown Fire Department was the first company to respond to the blaze, where it was met by units from Citizens, Independent and Bakerton fire companies from Jefferson County, along with units from Sharpsburg, Md., Baker Heights in Berkeley County, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Boonsboro, Md. Fire Department.
