Lady Falcons’ Kaitlyn Snyder scores 22 points in win over Rams
FAIRMONT — With Kaitlyn Snyder scoring 22 points and a solid 21-of-26 showing at the foul line, Fairmont defeated visiting Shepherd, 80-67, in WVIAC women’s basketball game at the Joe Retton Arena last Tuesday.
Shepherd was 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Fairmont was 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Snyder’s 22 points, as well as the 16 from Tiffany Nicholson, 13 from Hailey Garrett, and 10 from reserve Hallie Gunnoe, overshadowed the 18 points and 10 rebounds from Shepherd’s Emily Daniel. Guard Rachel Johnson tossed in 16 points and Alex Tamez added 14 for Shepherd.
The Lady Rams could make only 11-of-16 free throws as compared with Fairmont’s 21-of-26 (80.8 percent).
Fairmont led, 1-0, and Shepherd never caught up, once trailing, 32-14, with 8:07 left in the first half. The Fighting Falcons had a 44-31 lead at the half.
Shepherd committed 20 turnovers in the loss. Tamez had five of those turnovers.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, the Lady Rams will face Charleston in the Butcher Center at 2 p.m.
