Cougars outswim Gaels, Bulldogs, and Trojans

SHEPHERDSTOWN — The Jefferson girls and boys swim teams both outdistanced St. Maria Goretti, Martinsburg, and Hampshire to open the swim season last Saturday at the Shepherd University Wellness Center.

The Jefferson girls edged St. Maria Goretti, 49.50-44.50, defeated Martinsburg, 69-24, and beat Hampshire, 83-10. The Jefferson boys were 64-29 winners over St. Maria Goretti, stopped Martinsburg, 77-15, and had little trouble with Hampshire, winning 81-10.

Luisa Holland had individual wins in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. She swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay unit. Kaley Hoffman won the 100 butterfly and was on the 200 medley relay team.

Keegan Simmons had a pair of individual wins, taking the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. He swam legs on the winning 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay unit. Henry deBuchananne won both the individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. He swam legs on the winning 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Bailey Pitcher won the 400 freestyle and the 100 backstroke as well as swimming a leg on the 200 medley relay. Devin Forman took first in the 50 freestyle and was on the 200 medley relay team.
