Big relief

Relief operations for the victims of Superstorm Sandy in the northern half of the state have been headquartered at the West Virginia Air National Guard base in Martinsburg. Supplies being delivered via airlift include bottled water, Meals Ready to Eat, and power line repair equipment. Sen. Joe Manchin and Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin toured the site Friday, where both expressed the desire to make the Martinsburg air base a permanent installation, saying that it greatly aided statewide relief efforts. The only other permanent base capable of a coordinated relief effort is in Charleston.
