WHEELING — After finding itself in fifth place following the first 18-hole round at the state golf tournament, Washington’s team position didn’t change and it finished fifth overall in the 36-hole event.
First-round scores carded by the Patriots had Robert Fleming (78) leading the way with Ryan Mumaw (80), Patrick Burgess (85), and Dylan Mumaw (85) following. The best three rounds were counted to give the Patriots a one-day total of 243 strokes. University High held a slender lead over defending state champion Wheeling Park. The second day had Fleming card another 78, Ryan Mumaw shoot a 77, Dylan Mumaw fire an 85, and Jacob Shuff turn in a round of 94.
Washington’s 483 total was 30 strokes behind state champion University’s 453 total. Wheeling Park finished with a 459 or six strokes behind University.
