Workers with the Charles Town Utility Board will flush the water system in Charles Town, Ranson and other parts of Jefferson County starting Monday.
Field crews will be opening and operating fire hydrants to scour and clean the inside of the water mains through Sept. 19. Officials say the work is necessary to maintain water quality standards.
Officials ask that residents avoid washing clothes when crews are in the neighborhood, as there can be some discoloring or sedimentation of the water during the flushing process. This discoloration is not harmful and should clear up quickly.
Those who experience coloring or sedimentation should allow some water to flow from kitchen or bathroom faucets.
Questions or concerns may be directed to the Charles Town Utilities at 304-725-2316 or 304-725-8484.
