CHARLES TOWN — Two Maryland residents are in custody following a Thursday morning bank robbery.
Reginald Andre Taylor, 48, of Bladensburg, Md., and Yolanda Rochelle Armstrong, 41, also of Bladensburg, were charged with robbery.
The pair were stopped by Ranson Police Department Capt. Robbie Robertson and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies when they fled from the MVB Bank at 88 Somerset Blvd., in Charles Town around 9 a.m., according to Jessee Jones, Jefferson County Sheriff Department chief of staff.
Jones said multiple officers arrived as the vehicle was stopped, and both the driver and the passenger were detained.
Money was scattered about in plain view in the vehicle and large amounts of money were inside a duffel bag along with a yellow vest, according to police.
No weapon was displayed during the bank robbery, according to Jones.
Taylor, who was reported leaving the bank on a bicycle, confessed to committing the robbery and admitted it was unplanned and that Armstrong was unaware of his intentions, the sheriff’s department said.
Jones said Armstrong told officers she knew he had committed a robbery when he came back to the car with all the money, and she then drove off.
“All of the money found inside of the vehicle, outside of the bank, and inside of the bank on the floor amounted to $10,504,” Jones said.
Armstrong was assigned a $10,000 bond during arraignment and Taylor is being held without bond in the Eastern Regional Jail.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department investigated the robbery with the help of the Ranson Police Department, Charles Town Police Department, West Virginia State Police and the Harpers Ferry Police Department.
