BERKELEY SPRINGS— Even with a two-goal lead at the half, the Jefferson boys soccer team hadn’t come close to putting away host Berkeley Springs.
But when the second half started, the Cougars quickly opened the offensive doors and peppered the homestanding Indians with four straight goals in very short order.
The result of the early second-half scoring was Jefferson’s eventual 8-2 win over the Indians.
Jefferson improved to 3-2-4 in its nine matches. Berkeley Springs dipped to 5-7-0 overall.
Catalin Leon had the first Jefferson goal of the second half. Austin Doughty quickly followed with the fourth Jefferson goal that doubled the Cougars’ 2-0 first-half lead.
Tyler Steffey was right back with another Jefferson goal. Don Boucher’s goal on a penalty kick was Jefferson’s sixth goal. Finally, Dylan Donlan had scored on a header … giving the Cougars an 8-0 lead.
The Indians had the match’s last two goals, but it was little consolation. Zach Wise and Brandon McCumbee had the Berkeley Springs’ goals.
