CLEAR SPRING, Md. — With Ryan Graf (16:07.9) finishing second overall and Andrew Milliron (16:40.2) coming home sixth overall in a field of 168 individual runners, Jefferson High was able to win the “Big School Boys Division” of last weekend’s Interstate Classic cross country invitational that was held at Clear Spring High in western Washington County.
The Cougars totaled only 77 points as Jackson Jacobs finished 17th overall in 17:17.2, Zach Wiberg was 24th in 17:26.2, and Rhett Zillinger was 28th in 17:28.9 to count as Jefferson’s third, fourth, and fifth finishers.
Matthew Royster ran well enough to finish 50th overall in a time of 18:11.5.
Thomas Johnson (92 points) was the team runner-up with Centennial (Md.) finishing third with 94 points and Mount Hebron (Md.), coming in fourth with 128 points.
Washington High was 16th out of 19 schools with a team total of 485 points as its runners finished 55th (Joe McCormick in 18:17.0), 103rd, 107th, 109th, and 111th in the bulky field.
In the “Big School Girls Division”, Jefferson finished seventh overall with 219 points as River Hill (Md.) won with 86 points. Centennial was second with 113 points.
The indivdual winner was Kaitlyn Workman of Preston (WV), whose time was 19:12.8. Jefferson’s Abby Colbert was fifth overall in 19:50.6 with Anya Wallace (21st in 21:13.6), Malika Briggs (47th in 22:17.6), Emma Lindberg (69th in 23:10.0), and Nathalie Walker (77th in 23:33.1) comprising Jefferson’s five-runner scoring crew.
Washington’s Destiny Harrison was 30th overall in 21:42.4 as the Patriots finished 16th out of 19 schools with a team total of 400 points.
