Former Cougar Newman named to WVIAC honor

Fairmont defensive back and starter Ryland Newman has been named the WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in the Fighting Falcons 24-17 overtime loss at Bowie State.

The former Jefferson High athlete, now a senior at Fairmont, recovered two blocked kicks against the Bulldogs, one of which he returned 57 yards for a touchdown. His score gave Fairmont a 10-0 lead.

Newman also had six tackles (five solos) and a pass break-up against Bowie State.
