Jefferson yearbooks: Students at Jefferson High School may pick up 2011-12 yearbooks during their lunch period or daily until 4 p.m. through Friday. Those who attended Jefferson last year may pick up their books daily anytime through 4 p.m. Friday. Students must have photo IDs, school officials say.  Extra books are available and may be purchased for $75 each.  For more info, email

Historic preservation: Join the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia during its statewide historic preservation conference Thursday through Saturday, and learn from the tradition of historic preservation throughout Jefferson County. During the conference, attendees will explore some of Jefferson County’s historical places including several Washington family homes, the downtown Shepherdstown historic district and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Volunteers needed: Fundraiser volunteers are needed for next month’s 19th annual Haunted Fairgrounds. This event is sponsored by the Kiwanis and Country Roads Car Club, with money going to help stock food pantries, Panhandle Free Clinic, fire and rescue organizations and Santa’s Toy Shop. Tree donations: Shepherdstown’s 250th Anniversary Committee is encouraging residents to celebrate the anniversary by donating trees to the town’s historic Elmwood Cemetery this fall. Bus trips: The Jefferson County Council on Aging and Jefferson Capital Tours are sponsoring bus trips to Inner Harbor Gospel Cruise (Oct. 13); Antietam Cowboy Christmas Show (Nov. 14); Christmas in Williamsburg, Va.
