The $400,000 Charles Town Oaks to be run at seven furlongs will be the highlight of this Saturday’s five-race stakes card on Race for the Ribbon night at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
The Charles Town Oaks is for three-year-old fillies.
Four other stakes — three of them for two-year-olds — will be featured on the Sept. 22 card. Post time for the first race will be a special 6 p.m. for the 11-race card.
Two-year-old fillies will contest the $75,000 Miss Shenandoah at 6 1/2 furlongs. The Pink Ribbon Stakes has a $70,000 purse for the field of three-year-olds and up that will go in the seven furlong test. Another two-year-old filly field will feature juveniles in the $50,000 Rachel’s Turn Stakes for state-bred fillies at 4 1/2 furlongs. The purse in that stakes is $50,000. The Henry Mercer Memorial also carries a $50,000 purse for two-year-old, state-bred colts that will try the 4 1/2 furlong distance.
Entries for the Charles Town Oaks will likely come from this summer’s Test Stakes at Saratoga. Nominated for the $400,000 race are My Miss Aurelia, Gypsy Robin, Eden’s Moon, Judy The Beauty and Agave Kiss.
Many of the thoroughbreds entered on the stakes card this Saturday will be aiming for the Oct. 20, nine-race stakes West Virginia Breeders Classic night at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
